It is good to have another winter behind us! In 2010, Colonie Town Golf Course will continue to provide the best public golf value to Colonie residents and their guests. In 2009, 70,300 golfers made their way around Colonie Town Golf Course, again making it the busiest golf facility in upstate New York . Last season also accounted for the most rounds played at our course in a golf season since 1999. Colonie Town Golf Course is home for 30 leagues and over 80 tournaments and outings, benefiting many professional organizations and charities within the Town of Colonie and throughout the Capital Region. Highlights on our 2010 schedule include Colonie Town Golf Course hosting the final round of the prestigious Albany County Amateur Championship as well as the Northeastern New York PGA Assistant Professional's Championship in August and a PGA of America Play Golf America Day.
We are looking forward to fantastic playing conditions in 2010 as the Colonie Town Golf Course maintenance crew, led by Superintendent John Risler, is continually working on drainage projects which will improve the ability to move water away from many of the wettest holes on the course. They are also focusing on tree removal projects which will allow for better turf conditions throughout our facility. These efforts will help the golf course open earlier in the spring and remain playable during wet periods of the golf season.
The golf operations staff at Colonie Town Golf Course is preparing for another busy season, as if the weather cooperates, we will be well on our way to our best season ever. PGA Head Professional Noel Gebauer was recognized in 2009 as the Northeastern New York PGA Golf Professional of the Year and is looking forward to implementing new initiatives regarding growing playing opportunities for residents as well as developing new golfers, young and old alike.
