About the Department
The Town of Colonie Youth Services Division works cooperatively with the local community to coordinate, plan and develop programs and services that enhance and further develop the lives of our young people.
The Youth Services Division acts as a resource to young people, families, the North and South Colonie School Districts, CBA and to the community in general. We offer a number of programs and services which include:

Red Cross Babysitting Courses
Toddler Tales
Youth Advisory Board
The Youth Services Division also provides assistance in the planning and implementation of various Town events such as the Annual Easter Party and the Halloween Party.

Q. Where should I go to obtain working papers?
A. Working papers are only issued through your local high school.
Q. What is the current minimum wage?
A. The current minimum wage is $7.25 per hour.
Q. Do I need to take the Red Cross Babysitting Course in order to babysit?
A. Although the Red Cross Babysitting Course is highly recommended for babysitters, it is not a requirement.
Q. Does the Wrap Around Program accept part-time students?
A. No. Only full-time students are admitted on a first come, first serve basis.
Q. When does Toddler Tales meet?
A. The group gathers on Fridays, mid-September through mid-June. Toddler Tales follows the South Colonie School District calendar, including being closed on days when there is only a delay.
Q. May I use the fields behind the Community Center facility to hold a sports practice?
A. The fields behind the Youth Services Division are available for use by sports teams or organizations, as long as prior approval is received from the Director's office. A Town of Colonie Building/Facility Use Form, which may be obtained from the Director's office, must be completed by the individual filing the application and submitted to the Director for approval. A certificate of liability insurance is also required.
Q. Is it possible to rent a room in the Community Center facility for meetings or activities that require a long-term or continuous commitment?
A. Yes. Various groups rent available space in the facility for meetings or sports activities throughout the year.

Facility Use - 1653 Central Avenue
The building located at 1653 Central Avenue has several rooms, one lounge, auditorium, gym and outside field for Youth Services Division and community use. Fees are charged based on the number of rooms and amount of time requested. In certain situations fees are not charged based on the nature of the organization and the purpose for which space is being requested.
